As the morning begins, you can hear the soft sweeping of the dough, the baker waiting patiently and the dough rising, plus the scent of freshly baked goods. This process is special because it makes you more patient, attentive, and considerate. Cooking a meal takes time, much like how we go about our lives. We must be there and believe that things are still happening even when they are not visible such as the use of yeast or the help of God throughout the day. While I go through the steps, I feel inspired by the verse in Lamentations 3:23, mentioning the everlasting faithfulness and mercies of God. Like baking bread every morning, grace renews our lives each day.
In the merry-go-round of life, when we are busy with our daily tasks, baking gives me a moment for reflection. Doing simple tasks with love and purpose shows that I love and follow God’s heart. Jesus did not share dinner with His disciples in any lofty way or with high ranks but simply gathered with them in the present moment. So, with my hands brushed in flour and the oven making my small kitchen warm and cozy, I remember what I am, and I feel connected to the surroundings and recall those precious words-“Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). It helps us focus on thanking God for each day, remaining patient when we don’t understand His plan and sharing our gifts whether they’re physical or spiritual with others.
